Hamady celebrates first unbeaten regular season

For the first time in school history, a Hamady football team was perfect during the regular season.

The Hawks overcame a sluggish first half Friday against Flint and came roaring out of the locker room after intermission to post a 43-6 victory that gave them a perfect 9-0 record entering the playoffs.

"The kids were happy but they were a little quieter because I think it just took a lot out of them," said coach Gary Lee. "I think they were relieved it was over. Every week, this thing kept building and building. They were excited but with all the notoriety and publicity, I think it wore on them a little bit.

"The first half, the kids from Flint were really flying around. They were hyped up. They were trying not to let us get that 9-0 season and they were playing that way. The second half -- we went in the locker room and discussed a few things -- they turned it around themselves. It was like a whirlwind the way they were going.

"I'm just happy for the guys. This is something nobody can ever take away."

Quarterback Kori Moore completed 10 of 20 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns while DeShawn Gibson led the ground game with 10 carries for 149 yards and two TDs. Gibson also returned a fumble 15 yards for another touchdown.

Tre Davis caught four passes for 101 yards and two TDs, freshman Marcus Mosley scored his first varsity touchdown, Ali Brewster and Tyriek Robinson recorded two-point conversions, and Gene Alexander kicked three PATs.
